Gout
This is an acute form of arthritis that is nearly always associated with a long-lasting, abnormally high concentration of uric acid in the blood, which can lead to the deposition of urate crystals in and around joints (often those involving the big toe), producing pain, swelling, and other signs of inflammation. It mostly affects men age 40 and older.
